Rare, antique wooden statues of Taoist Immortals ('Xian') riding on mythical animals. Each statue is a different animal: Rooster, Phoenix, Peacock or Goose, Chinese mythical lion, Horse or Donkey, Tortoise. They symbolize auspicious signs and old Thaoist virtues. Each animal has a certain meaning in old Chinese culture. The statues are still partly covered with linen and the back has a space to insert a prayer on paper or sometimes a lock of hair. Very unique and rare.
